Introduction

The team that works in the field of virtual and augmented reality and its applications in medicine and health, consists of two departments and specialties including (i) health information technology professionals and design technicians and (ii) clinics and health professionals.

Considering Tabriz University of Medical Sciences’ ecology and the open and hopefully view of university administrators on the role and application of new technologies in the field of education, long before the COVID-19 pandemic, fortunately, our team had 5 years’ experience in VR / AR related topics and during this time, despite the difficult supply of equipment, take positive steps, especially in the treatment processes in the fields of rehabilitation and psychiatry.

Our main priority is to train specialized forces in this field. Because, the main driver in IT projects is manpower.

Our specialties

Certain specialties are required to implement virtual and augmented reality projects.

·         Undoubtedly, the most important specialty in this field is the ability of 3D modeling. Familiarity with the concepts and basics of spatial modeling, visualization and mastering the software in this scope, such as Blender, 3DMAX, and etc. not only opens a new space for employment in these topics, but also the ability of industrial, commercial, architectural and even game modeling. More detailed modeling will lead to more immersion and better learning in this area.

·         The second specialty is programming to create interactions with the virtual environment. When 3D models enter virtual environments produced in Unity or Unreal Engine, the users must interact with them. For example, shootings and explosions occur or have the ability to move. Mostly programming is performed in C #, especially in Unity.

·         Working with functional library and assets is an important part of developing virtual reality and augmented projects. Using GoogleVR or Vuforia, speeds up saves time and programming. Therefore, our team always keeps up to date with information about these functions and plugins.

·         Moreover, research is a key factor to thesuccess of virtual reality and augmented projects. Without a proper understanding of the problem, it is not possible to find a proper answer.

In addition to main specialties, skills such as graphics and design, screenwriting, analysis and needs assessment, and design of appropriate smartphone apps may also be required.
